Cook (Temporary – Maternity Cover)

The Handmade Bakery is a not for profit, artisan bakery and cafe in
Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. We are a workers co-operative, owned and run by our
members. We are a flourishing bakery producing 2000 loaves of real bread and
patisserie each week, all made using traditional slow fermentation processes.
Established in 2009, we moved to our present canal side premises in 2012 adding a
vibrant contemporary café space which is open Tuesday – Sunday for breakfast, lunch,
coffee, tea and cake.

We are currently looking for a cook to join the cafe team on a temporary basis to cover
maternity leave.

The job will include:
Working as part of the cook team, preparing food to order in the cafe, where we offer
breakfasts and lunches throughout the week and weekends from our high quality,
seasonal menu.

The hours are approximately 32 per week, generally either 8am – 4pm or 7am – 3pm on a
rotating schedule to include some weekend working.

You will be:
• An experienced, versatile and skilled cook, used to working in a busy kitchen
• Flexible with regards to working different shifts and days, with the ability to work as
barista and cafe assistant in addition to cooking, as required.
• A creative cook with the ability to prepare dishes from scratch, using seasonal and
natural ingredients and incorporating our artisan breads.
• Positive with a ‘can do’ attitude.
• Keen to ensure customers receive top quality food and service
• Keen to learn about and promote the bakery and cafe and its artisan products.
• Self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative.
• An excellent team-player and communicator.
• Hardworking and trustworthy and interested in working in a co-operative.
